The Super Bowl is billed as the biggest event in American sports, and for many people, it’s all about the food. Most of the food focus is on a party spread, but why not put together a menu inspired by the culinary traditions of one or both team’s cities?
I’ve shared my general ideas on making dinner more fun, and I love any reason to create a fun menu. Whether it’s the finale of a show you like, or the Oscars, or creating a March Madness Menu, there are so many fun ways to inspire a dinner menu. Whether you’re rooting for or against one of the teams playing, or just in it for the commercials, a themed Super Bowl menu can take dinner to the next level:
Menu ideas inspired by Philadelphia:
- Philly Cheesesteak: Thinly sliced steak cooked with onions and served on a hoagie roll with melted cheese. Alternatively, you can make a veggie cheesesteak with grilled onions, peppers, cheese, and I like to add some avocado.
- Soft Pretzels: Salty, chewy pretzels made with warm and soft dough.
- Scrapple: A traditional Pennsylvania Dutch dish made with pork scraps and cornmeal.
- Stuffed Bell Peppers: Bell peppers filled with a mixture of rice, vegetables, and spices, and baked to perfection.
Menu ideas inspired by Kansas City:
- BBQ Ribs: Slow-cooked pork ribs rubbed with a sweet and savory BBQ sauce.
- BBQ Jackfruit: Shredded jackfruit cooked in a savory BBQ sauce and served on a bun or on its own.
- Baked Beans: Sweet and tangy beans baked with molasses, brown sugar, (and bacon).
- Grilled Veggies: Grilled vegetables such as zucchini, eggplant, and portobello mushrooms, seasoned with spices and served with a side of corn on the cob.
- Mac and Cheese: The classic comfort food, made with a creamy cheese sauce and elbow macaroni. Kansas City-style mac and cheese often includes toppings like breadcrumbs or bacon.
Don’t forget to give you dishes fun names! While it didn’t work as intended, I made “Defeat Philly Cheesesteaks” for the NFC Game the San Francisco 49ers played.
A themed menu is sure to be a touchdown with you and your family or guests.
